Back in the mid-eighties, brothers Francis and Moyses Howard emigrated from Brazil to Louisiana and formed a band called Incubus, releasing two albums in 1988 and 1990 before going on an extended hiatus. In the mean-time, the rap-rock band Incubus rose to prominence, and so the Howard brothers decided to rename their band before returning to the scene, and thus Opprobrium was (re-)born. The 2000 album, Discerning Forces, is a prime slice of American death metal, owing a bit to the Florida bands of the early nineties. As with a lot of death metal bands, the originality factor isn't terribly high here, but the band is ferocious, and the album is very well produced, giving the songs an extra punch. Little has been heard from the band since that album's release.
