Tobias Sammet is a name known by every rock fan around the world, especially with EDGUY, as singer and composer of the band he’s been with for almost 20 years. Thanks to his band - one of the most successful German acts and an actual metal music institution, he toured more than once through Europe, Australia, Asia and both North and South America.
Tobias founded his side project AVANTASIA in 1999, which was originally meant to be a one-off studio adventure. But Sammet brought the project back to life in 2007 and delivered the album "The Scarecrow" one year later. This concept masterpiece officially became one of the 20 best-selling records in Europe shortly after its release.
"The Scarecrow" stormed the album charts in 15 countries (#8 in Germany) and even reached a Top 10 with the single "Lost In Space".
During the summer of 2008, the incredible success of the album gathered a gigantic ensemble and led it to a festival tour, having a headliner show at the prestigious Wacken Open Air in front of over 85,000 spectators as climax. Once the tour was over, the all-star ensemble AVANTASIA had enthralled more than half a millions fans in Europe, Asia and South America.
In spite of his exhausting lifestyle and two consecutive world tours, Tobias Sammet spent the few free weeks of 2008 and 2009 in the studio with producer Sascha Paeth, working on new AVANTASIA material that eventually turned to both albums “The Wicked Symphony” and “Angel Of Babylon”.
The double-DVD "The Flying Opera" has been available since March 2011. This documentary relates the first and unforgettable AVANTASIA world tour that followed the successful album. In the end, "The Flying Opera" is the perfect illustration of the sheer magnificence of this historic event and surely remains a great entertainment for all fans of AVANTASIA all around the world!
The current album »Ghostlights«, successor of the masterpiece »The Mystery Of Time« (2013), will be released early 2016 and followed in March by the GHOSTLIGHTS WORLD TOUR.
